Enter Art Fair

29.Aug - 01.Sep 2024

Copenhagen

For this year‘s Enter Art Fair we present two young positions: Yijie Gong and Malte van de Water.

The young Chinese artist Yijie Gong first studied art education at Tianjin University in China from 2007-2011, and then art at the renowned Academy of Art in Düssel- dorf from 2012-2019, where she graduated as a master student of Professor Andreas Schulze. Yijie Gong lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany. Many of her picto- rial ideas are based on landscapes, she draws on Chinese painting techniques and thus creates a link to her own roots. With her contemplative color field paintings, she creates scene-like spatial experiences with a suggestive depth effect that makes the color visually and almost physically tangible.

Malte van de Water studied at the Kunstakademie Münster from 2010-2018 with Professor Michael van Ofen, whose master student he was, and at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien from 2018-2019. He currently lives and works in Düsseldorf. His works are a link between digital and analog art. The moving compositions in complex color combinations are created on the computer and then transferred to canvas. Malte van de Water is a master of playing with shapes, figures, lines and shadows; through the titles he chooses for his works, he playfully creates stories and leaves room for the imagination.

Malte van de Water's oeuvre represents a synthesis of digital and analogue art. The dynamic compositions are initially created on the computer and subsequently transferred to the canvas. He is a master of manipulating shapes, figures, lines and shades, and through the titles of his works, he playfully creates narratives and allows room for the imagination.

Yijie Gong

From an early age, Yijie Gong engaged in the practice of traditional Chinese painting, demonstrating a particular affinity for the use of colour. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies in China, she elected to pursue further education in the field of art in Germany. The artist's works reflect her thoughts about human nature and aesthetics. She draws inspiration from the contemplation of landscape, incorporating aspects of Chinese painting techniques to bridge the gap between her cultural heritage and the Western art world. Her contemplative colour field paintings create backdrop-like spatial experiences with a suggestive depth effect, making the colour visually and almost physically tangible.
