"Based on an expanded concept of the image, light - space - movement - time in the network of relationships between art and everyday life are the fundamental aspects of my artistic work. My space-related works with light, slide, video, photography and other media and materials understand themselves on the one hand as painting with contemporary means - on the other hand as places of perception of body and space. I am not concerned with the depiction and representation of the visible. The formal reduction of my works determines their sign-like quality. The meaning is only revealed by linking the most diverse aspects and their meanings. In the museum context I deal with the special situation of the white cube, which is separated from everyday life: With my spatial installations I create places of perception in which seeing becomes an elementary experience and directed tensions are built up. Rooms with spotlights and sine tones, for example, take perception to its limits; works with incandescent and flashlights as well as neon lettering activate individual inner images.
The video and slide installations, by means of full-surface projection on all walls, are likewise concerned with grasping the space through the interplay and alternation of brightness and darkness. The focus is on communication: between viewer and space. The visitors are included in the work and thus enabled to perceive themselves in relation to their surroundings. Sensory perception proves to be a complex process of taking in sensory data and processing it in a way that is shaped by individual experience. I am interested in not depicting something, but in using a medium and filtering completely new, different images from it - images that are very reduced, that open up spaces. My architecture-related works do not exist independently, detached from their surroundings. They are located in a socio-spatial context, are determined by the conditions of perception, orientation, movement, communication for humans. This results in my approach to the situation and my procedure at the respective location.
I am always concerned with the reflection of spatial, but also social and perception-psychological conditions with the most diverse creative means, which are determined by the respective context."
