ABOVE YOUR HEAD 21.01. - 01.04.2023
We used the time of the pandemic for research and studio visits to discover new and relevant positions for the gallery: This autumn, we showed the first positions from our studio visits in the exhibition BENEATH YOUR FEET.
Now we are presenting works by Ulrike Dornis, Berlin, Nina K. Jurk and Maria Sainz Rueda, both Leipzig and Malte van de Water, Düsseldorf in a group exhibition entitled ABOVE YOUR HEAD from 21.01. - 01.04.2023 in our exhibition spaces.
Here, the unifying narrative is the thematic circles oscillating between poetry and concept, which include nature, vastness and spatiality. Nature as a source of inspiration, realised by the four artists in very independent ways, which is also the attraction of this exhibition in the juxtaposition of the positions:
In her series "Arabesque", Ulrike Dornis, inspired by an Egyptian cotton cloth, shows stylised tendril ornaments in a large bandwidth, thereby facing up to painterly challenges with aplomb. Nina K. Jurk paints self-experienced, wandered landscapes in fine colour gradations, which form the transition from atmospheric landscape to an endless sky and thereby exert a great suction effect. Maria Sainz Rueda's paintings also show landscapes that open secret doors to another reality, imaginative and fascinating, defying the laws of nature, rearranging reality. Finally, the paintings of Malte van de Water, whose play with shapes, figures, lines and shading, and not least through the titles of their works, initiate stories and playfully leave room for the imagination.
The exhibition is about four extraordinary artistic signatures, only at first sight very different posi- tions, the connecting element between them is the spatiality and the expanse, the pictures can relate to each other and take the visitor on an exciting journey of discovery.
