Susan Broy explores different materials, forms and (craft) techniques in her sculptures, objects and installations. Her art challenges traditional ways of thinking and seeing and questions issues of identity and society. Characteristic of her work are her sculptures in an abstract formal language made of charred wood (Nobuddies, A Question of Attitude).
In order to explore questions of space, proportion and balance, she creates paper constructions, cut-outs like patterns, which are cut and realised not only in cardboard but also in metal.
Broy's architectural-minimalist models play with conventional notions of space and time, whose beginning and end remain uncertain (Metamorphosis, Beginning and End, Kantig Schön).
The artist, who lives and works in the Munich area, does not limit herself to one particular medium, but experiments with a variety of materials and techniques to express her artistic vision. This variety of media allows Susan Broy to explore different aspects of her concepts.
All of Broy's works reflect aspects of political and social issues, be it the breakdown of power structures or the vulnerability of the individual, social expectations and the complexities of human existence. Susan Broy's work is characterised by its versatility and contemplative nature. The viewer is invited to engage with them with an open mind.
