For ART SG 2027, GALERIE VON&VON is excited to present four distinctive and outstanding artistic positions: Ben Johnson, Christian Höhn, Casagrande & Recalcati and Dorothee Liebscher.

Ben Johnson (*1946, Llandudno, Wales) is internationally known for his meticulously detailed paintings of architecture and cities and previous collaborations with Norman Foster. Working in acrylic, Johnson combines real buildings, memory and constructed perspectives to create cityscapes and architectural paintings that move between observation and imagination.

The photographic perspective of Christian Höhn (*1968, Bayreuth, GER) provides a different perspective on architecture as an artistic subject. His precisely composed images focus on deserted urban spaces, often presented as lightboxes that enhance their depth and luminosity.

Known for their sophisticated realism and previous artistic collaborations with Dolce & Gabbana, the artist duo Casagrande & Recalcati (*1968/1969, Milan, IT) create hyperrealistic, floral visual worlds in meticulously crafted oil paintings.

Dorothee Liebscher’s (*1987, Freiberg, GER) paintings explore imaginary architectural and landscape spaces. Abandoned structures merge with vegetation in atmospheric compositions that move between reality, memory and fiction, creating spaces that feel both familiar and elusive.

Casagrande & Recalcati

The artist duo CASAGRANDE & RECALCATI, who live and work in Milan, feel a connection to the tradition of still life. The flower paintings, titled Ipervanitas, take up the idea of baroque vanitas images, and their close connection with the ephemeral. The flower paintings, titled Ipervanitas, refer to the idea of baroque vanitas paintings, and their close connection with the ephemeral. The paintings are reflections of the inevitable passing of time and illustrate various stages of beauty in continuous metamorphosis. The artist duo, who has already worked for Dolce & Gabbana, skillfully celebrates beauty, materiality, and transience in their paintings. Their latest oil paintings on canvas depict lush, floral compositions that, on closer inspection, already seem to be slowly wilting. The paintings by the artist duo transport us to an imaginary Garden of Eden, which is subject to slow degradation. Here nature portrays itself as a morbid beauty. Everything is fleeting but preserved thanks to the meticulous art of painting.

Dorothee Liebscher

Dorothee Liebscher's paintings depict imaginary views of architectural and landscape spaces, which often portray run-down, abandoned buildings, partly overgrown by vegetation. For the artist, who lives and works in Leipzig, the investigation into spatial themes holds central significance. The viewer adopts the image protagonist role and experiences the architectural structures. Insinuated landscape views, as well as a deep horizon, convey a great sense of depth. This results in thoughtfully constructed spaces that interpret reality subjectively and reveal to the viewer a hidden world that always offers new mysteries and raises questions. The paintings feature a specific color palette and exist in a field of tension between nostalgia and utopia. Partially surreal pictorial worlds emerge on the canvas. Through the intertwining of reality, memory, and fiction, spatial compositions emerge that invite the viewer to embark on his or her own exploration of an unfamiliar, yet at the same time seemingly familiar world.
